In stores this week (01/20/08)

NMHYour wallet will bleed this week, here is why:

Wii:

Endless Ocean (Nintendo; $29.99) - Lies about the length of the game aside, Endless Ocean is the first in what will most likely be the new hit genre of deep-sea-diving/exploration/virtual aquarium. If it helps at all with your consideration, Edge, a well respected British magazine notorious for tough reviews, gave this game a 7/10.

No More Heroes (Ubisoft; $49.99) - Another entry into the burgeoning field of punk-rock-game-design by Suda51, No More Heroes wins my coveted recommendation of the week award. Fans of the game Killer7 probably already have this one pre-ordered, so the fact that Edge gave this game a 9/10 probably won’t matter much to them. However, you, easily swayed consumer, should take that 9/10 as a blessing from Christ Himself and purchase No More Heroes immediately.

Wii Virtual Console:

Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers (SNES; 800 points) - Sure, some purists may say that the lack of six face buttons on the controller forever tainted this version of Street Fighter, however, those purists are nerds. This game served as my introduction to the Street Fighter series and was indeed completely and totally playable with those godforsaken shoulder buttons. VC-Reviews agrees and gave this game a perfect 5.

Adventures of Lolo 2 (Nes; 500 points) - Fans of puzzle/adventure games rejoice! Lolo 2 has finally be re-released! I’m stating the obvious because, honestly, I’ve never played this series before! VC-Reviews likes the game though! They gave it a 4 out of 5!

Nintendo DS:

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin (Nintendo; $34.99) - Hey, did you like the first Advance Wars for the DS? Did you feel it could have used an increase in the Emo factor somewhere in the order of 100%? Well, my friend, this week was made for you! If the thought of additional Emo is off-putting, take comfort in that the game is actually pretty good; 1up.com gave this game an 8.5 out of 10.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Sega; $34.99) - Hey, did you like the Wii version? No? Look, the game isn’t that bad, okay? Sure, it can be a little shallow at times, but it fulfills your teenage fantasies of Sonic and Mario coming together and making a game. It doesn’t fulfill that fantasy? Well, there is always Super Smash Bros Brawl. This Dual-Screen version got a 7.5 out of 10 from Nintendo Power.

PS3/Xbox 360:

Burnout Paradise (EA; $59.99) - Hey, wait, I don’t cover HD consoles! Never mind this! However, if you like the Burnout series, by all means give this game a go. It got a 9 out of 10 (and a game of the month award) from EGM.
