WiiWare launches May 12th in NA
In an interview with Level Up’s N’Gai Croal, Nintendo finally split the proverbial beans on their upcoming WiiWare service. Launching May 12th in North America, the new download service will be similar to the company’s Virtual Console service, different only in offering brand new games. While there won’t be a consistent pricing structure across all games, there will apparently be similar tiers ala the Virtual Console (i.e. NES games cost less than SNES games which cost less than N64 games).
There will unfortunately be no downloadable demos of the games either. However, Nintendo PR did unofficially announce the American Everybody’s Nintendo Channel, where information including pictures, videos, and fellow gamers’ ratings will be featured.
The service will launch with a currently unknown number of games. Confirmed for release through a Nintendo press release thus far is LostWinds, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: My life as a king, and an unnamed, episodic series from Telltale games. We do know that Nintendo is also working on two of it’s own offering: a Pokemon “farm” game and an updated version of the popular Dr. Mario.
