Commodore 64 coming to European Wiis

C64Obsolete computer fans rejoice! Today, in what we can only imagine was amidst a chorus of 8-bit loading screen synesthesia so vivid it blinded many and left most in seizures, Nintendo Europe announced that support for the Commodore 64 would be added to the Wii’s virtual console soon. Titles will be priced at the NES price point, 500 points, and will, for now, be exclusive to the continent of Europe. The first titles added will be International Karate and Uridium.

While region specific consoles aren’t a new development for the Virtual Console, the MSX is currently only planned for Japan, this announcement seems sort of arbitrary. Sure, the C64 was popular in Europe, but it was popular in North America too. This arrangement probably has something to do with licensing agreements, though, so I’d expect the exclusivity will end relatively soon.
