North American Virtual Console Update (02/25/08)

KirbyWell, there goes the likelihood of the original Super Smash Bros. getting a release before Brawl, as Kirby 64 and Psychosis are the latest games added for your consideration. Nintendo usually puts at least a month between its N64 releases, so unless they start breaking traditions, you’ll have to keep waiting for March 9th to get your Smash fix.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (N64; 1,000 points) - Kirby’s first and last outing on the 64 left many disappointed. When it was originally released, Nintendo Power gave it one of its better reviews with an 8.1 out of 10. I should also add that this was when Nintendo Power was unabashedly bias, so, you know, make of it what you will. Protip: make sure you’ve downloaded the original NES Kirby and have waited for just about every other Kirby game to get released before downloading Kirby 64. Hey, at least it isn’t Kirby Air Ride, right?

Psychosis (TG16; 600 points) - Wait, what’s this? A side-scrolling shmup? On the Virtual Console? My god, you should download this just for the novelty of it all! I mean, it isn’t like we get a new shmup nearly every god-damn week. And it isn’t like Lords of Thunder wasn’t released within the past month, either. So, I mean, under those two circumstances, why shouldn’t you download Psychosis? If by some magic those two criteria were met, then yes, you’d have a great reason not to download this game, but honestly, with the shmup genre being so underrepresented, we must make do with even the most mediocre of what we’re given!

There you go, an unfortunately mediocre week. But hey, the next two weeks have the potential to be amazing.
