Wired’s Game|Life hates, then loves, Wii shovelware
Still new to the trendy video-podcasting scene, Game|Life turns its attention to the Wii for its 4th epsiode, covering the upcoming Wii Fit and the already released, already terrible, crop of “shovelware” titles available. Even if you are completely uninterested in either of those two topics, you should probably give the video a watch, if only for Chris Kohler’s pink Yoshi head slippers. Super Kawaii!
But the story doesn’t end there! Not to make you think that terrible, terrible games are entirely bad things, Chris Kohler resorts back to his non-vidcasting day job to explain why shovelware isn’t really a bad thing. His thesis:
All Nintendo is doing is opening up the market and exerting less control over what people can make for the Wii. Plus, think about it. Nintendo’s official line here is that they’re not putting creative restraints on game makers, which is wholly incompatible with their rationale for why they won’t allow Adults Only-rated games on Wii.
Kohler makes some strong arguments in his post, which will hopefully quell the hordes yelling themselves horse decrying the state of the Wii game library.
