North American Virtual Console Update (03/24/08)

King’s KnightOn the face of things, today’s update may seem a little lacking. However, if you’re playing the awesome new meta-game of the logic behind each week’s virtual console releases, well then you’re probably excited that you get to update the brackets for your fantasy league on Yahoo!

Powerball (GEN; 800 points) - Unfortunately, this game has no more than a titular similarity to the American Gladiators event. However, if you’re into Mutant League-like takes on Future-sports, then this Scifi rendition of a football/rugby game may just be up your alley.

King’s Knight (NES; 500 points) - With box art like what King’s Knight had (pictured right), backed by a score crafted by Nobuo Uematsu, and released by a company called Square Soft, you’re probably expecting something a little different than a Commando or Ikari Warriors knockoff, aren’t you? Unfortunately, that is what you’re getting. However, if you’re playing that VC-meta game we were talking about earlier, then I shouldn’t have to tell you the significance of this game getting re-released. To date, Square Enix has released only one other game on the VC, Act Rasier, an Enix published action/simulation hybrid game. Other than that, Square Enix has avoided the VC like a plague. So, King’s Knight isn’t only the second game released by the company in total, but also the first from its Square Soft backlog. While this probably won’t lead to games like Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger getting a release anytime soon, it is at very least a start.

Now, if you’d excuse me, I need to go update my information on Yahoo! Fantasy Release dates.
