WiiWare Launch: Dr. Mario gameplay video
Today marked the official Japanese launch of WiiWare, Nintendo’s new download service for original games. The launch lineup includes a few classic retreads and a couple original games to boot, as well as a few, um, pieces of shovelware.
One of the first launch titles, and one of the more eagerly anticipated offerings, is an update on Nintendo’s Dr. Mario franchise. Dr. Mario & Virus Buster keeps the main Dr. Mario/Tetris Attack gameplay intact, adding Mii support, online multiplayer, as well as a “game share” option, allowing you to send a competitive multiplayer demo to a person on your Wii friend list. The game also includes a cooperative mode supporting up to 4 players and using the Wii-remote’s pointer functionality for controls.
The game costs 1,000 points in Japan and will most likely cost the same when it gets released in other territories. For more information, check out IGN’s early hands-on impressions, Game|Life’s hands-on impressions, or the embedded video below.
